Indoor air quality has been connected with student academic performance. Indoor air quality has been largely ignored compared to the move to improve outside air, however, this is concerning because we spend a larger part of our daily life inside. When thinking about the standard day of a student, they are also indoors for a large part of the day. Considering the various airborne particles that can be damaging- viruses, bacteria, mold spores, allergens, VOCs and odors, it is no wonder that the air inside a school can be detrimental to the academic performance of its students.
One such study (2006) published in the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers found that student performance was statistically higher when greater ventilation was present in the building. The authors concluded that a similar effect could be created by adding improvements to the school’s heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system.
At Ducts and Cleats, we offer a solution for schools that is both effective and cost-friendly. Combining 2 proven air-purifying technologies (and offering a third additional option of UVC light), our ISO-Aire unit offers protection to all under the roof from poor air quality. We use a HEPA filter that catches 99.99% of all particles equal to or larger than 0.3 microns in size, as well as bipolar ionization that assists the HEPA filter in capturing particles while also killing and neutralizing pathogens and even eliminating odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Going beyond even COVID-19, we offer a way for schools to improve the inside conditions to help facilitate student success by significantly reducing issues that arise from inhalation of mold spores, allergens, VOCs, and infectious droplets. Absenteeism should consequently be improved, providing students more time in the classroom, and teachers with fewer sick days needed to be utilized.
